Alayna is hanging a picture frame in the center of a wall that is 8 feet wide. If the picture frame is 22 1/4 inches wide, how far will each side of the picture frame be from the edge of the wall (in inches)? First, estimate the amount and then find the exact measurement. In two or more complete sentences, explain how you solved the problem. You may include a diagram in your explanation, if you wish.

Step-by-step explanation:

width of the wall (w)= 8feet = 96 inches

width of the picture frame (p) = 22+(1/4) inches = 22.25inches

now ATQ, the frame is at the centre of the wall so obviously frame will cover equal width at both half of the wall.

w/2 = 96/2 inches = 48inches

p/2 = 22.25/2 inches = 11.125inches

Distance from the edge of the wall to the edge of frame (of each side)

= (48 - 11.125) inches

= 36.875inches
