The reason for more solubility of Alcohol in water than hydrocarbon of comparable molecular mass is-
{\boxed{\huge{H-bonding\:or\:Hydrogen\:Bonding}}}

Alcohols have Hydrogen attached to oxygen which further interact with water and make weak bond called hydrogen bond and this bonding known as hydrogen bonding. And in case of hydrocarbon no such bonding exist.

this make Alcohols more soluble in water than Hydrocarbon of comparable mass.
