Alexis, Becca, and Cindy do volunteer work at Adopt-a-Pet Animal Shelter. They worked a total of 285 hours at the shelter last summer. Alexis worked 15 hours less than Becca. Cindy worked 4 more than twice as many hours as Becca.

Write and solve an equation that expresses the relationship between the number of hours each student worked last summer and the total number of hours worked. Define the variable used in your equation. Show all you work.

How many hours did each student work? Show all your work.

Answer:

59, 74 & 152 hours respectively

Step-by-step explanation:

let, Alexis,Becca & Cindy worked a, b, & c hours respectively

so, a+b+c=285.....(i), b-a=15..........(ii) & c-2b=4 ...............(iii)

then, a=b-15, c=4+2b

from(i).. b-15+b+4+2b=285

so, 4b=296, b=74.

from(ii)a=b-15=74-15=59

from(iii)c=4+2b=4+2*74=152
