When we pull the lawn mower The Weight gets balanced by the Perpendicular component of Force of Pulling acting upward. As a result, the weight decreases.

When we push a lawn mower The Weight is increased due to The Perpendicular component of Force acting downward. As a result, the weight increases.

So, if Time somehow increases the Momentum will automatically decrease [ eg - 10/2 N > 10/5 N ]

So the player, to catch the ball easily, lowers his hand down.Also, it helps him not to get injured or miss the catch.
