This relationship between Algae and Fungi is known as mutualism or symbiotic relationship.

The algal part known as the phycobiont and the fungal part known as mycobiont share a symbiotic relationship between them.

The fungi is responsible for absorbing minerals and water which is in turn provided to the algae that uses them in order to make food using their own chlorophyll.

This prepared food is then taken in by the fungi. In this way both are dependent on each other.
