Given:

The ratio in which Ali and Steve share some sweets = 2 : 7

Steve gets 30 more sweets than Ali

To find:

How many sweets does Steve get?

Solution:

Let's assume,

"2x" → represents the no. of sweets Ali gets

"7x" → represents the no. of sweets Steve gets

Since we are given that share of sweets is 30 more in the case of Steve than Ali, so we can form an equation as,

[No. of sweets with Steve] = [No. of sweets with Ali] + 30

7x = 2x + 30

=> 7x−2x=30

=> 5x=30

=> x = 3/5

=> x = 6

∴ 2x = 2 × 6 = 12

and

∴ 7x = 7 × 6 = 42

Thus, Steve gets 42 sweets.
