Alkali metals do not form dispositive ions why??

Answer:

Alkali metals have only one electron in valence shell, so they can loose one electron too form a mono positive ions only. while alkali earth metals have two electrons in there valance shell so they loose two electrons to form a dipositive ion.

this is because alkali metals attain stability after losing an electron ie they get a +1 charge and are able to attain noble gas configuration

Since they have attained stability by losing just one electron they don't prefer to lose another electron.

why to do efforts when u are happy with your present state...aka laziness
