CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF A METAL.

1.Metals react with Oxides to form respective oxides

Eg : Mg + O2 --> MgO2

2.Reaction with water

• Some metals like Iron and Aluminium react with Steam to form Oxides and liberate Hydrogen gas
• Some metals like Potassium and Sodium react violently with Cold water. ( highly exothermic)
• Calcium starts floating because the bubbles of hydrogen gas formed stick to the surface of the metal

3.Reaction with Acids

Some metals reacts with Acids to give Salt and Hydrogen gas

The metals which react with both acid and base are called as amphoteric metals
