A chance meeting

All construction sites markets roads and other places of labour were closed. Ramu having nothing to do was shivering inside the roadside shelter thinking about food. Suddenly a car stopped by his side and a young boy of sixteen years stepped out.

He was very well dressed and looked no less than a prince charming . He came up to Ramu and stretched his arms. Ramu was confused. What did this gesture mean? The boy took Ramu's hand and gently pulled him towards his car. Opening the door he told Ramu to board in. Ramu was utterly confused.

As the car sped by Ramu was panic stricken. Was this the new style of kidnapping? But who would like to kidnap a pauper like him. The car was a luxurious one. It took roads that were the dwellings of the rich and famous. In front of a big mansion it pulled its brakes.

The handsome young boy took Ramu inside. It was like the palace of a true king. Two elderly people greeted them. The boy told them that he had chanced upon Ramu on the road side and brought him home.

Ramu was taken to the wash room and given a new set of clothes. After taking a long and luxurious bath, as he hadn't had the luxury of bathing for a long time, Ramu came to the living room with a grumbling stomach of emptiness. But Lady Fortune was smiling on him that day. He was treated to a grand supper.

After  his dinner he asked the young boy why was he treating him so well. The boy instantly replied in unison with his parents, the elderly couple, that he was his saviour. Hadn't Ramu saved the boy when he was eleven years old from drowning  when the boat he was in had upturned and he had fallen into a lake by whose side Ramu was working?

Ramu remembered faintly. He did save a child he remembered but for him that was nothing great. He always helped others selflessly .

But for the young boy's family it was the greatest stroke of luck. Ramu was God send to them. They could not reward Ramu then as they were busy with the panic stricken, water soaked boy so today was a golden opportunity.

This chance meeting gave Ramu a new leash of life . The family adopted him and he was no longer hungry or without work.
