The west-Indian state of West Bengal is rich in flora and fauna. Flanked by rivers, hills and the sea, it has abundant natural resources. Although most of them have not been fully exploited, West Bengal has done well enough to keep up with other states. The state has coal fields in its second largest city, Asansol. The Asansol subdivision comprises of regions like Raniganj and Burnpur that are rich in coal. The coalfields in Asansol have earned West Bengal the pride of being the heart of coal industries. A lot of industries dependent on coal have set up their bases around Asansol in West Bengal. It is only the presence of coal mines that have seen the setting up of industries like railways and steel in this state.
