Of course not. You are confused because in introductory Chemistry some diatomic gases are of particular importance; I mean Oxygen; Hydrogen; Nitrogen; and halogens; that are much stable in that diatomic form (draw lewis structure of them to know why)

But our universe has many monoatomic gases(Ar; Kr;Ne) as any of the noble gases and polytomic gases of all kinds; virtually any compound can achieve all matter states if conditions are the needed; for example CO2; HCl; ETC. Even oxygen (stated commonly as a diatomic gas) can exist as a triatomic gas (O3) to form the famous ozone.
