a)because they have most intermolecular force.
b)they r in fixed shape and they have less intermolecular space.
c)yes, because by heating there intermolecular space is increased.

Aaryadeep: well ice is a solid but on heating it converts into water not expand why ?
Neershreyansh: actually in language of science it expands but as everyony knows that ice is made from water so it's expended or melted form is water.
Aaryadeep: okay thanks

Hi there,

a.]Solids have definite shape because there is minimum intermolecular space and maximum force of attraction between the particles.

b.]Two properties of solids are:-
•Solids have definite shape and definite volume.
•Solids have high kinetic energy, minimum intermolecular space and maximum force of attraction between the particles.

c.]Yes, a solid will expand on heating. Its like when heat a solid substance the particles gain heat and start moving faster when they move vigorously and fast they hit near by particles causing them to be pushed a little faster away. Therefore the solid substance expands.
