all the alkalis are bases but all the bases are not alkalis, why?

Explanation:

most bases will be metal oxides , metal hydroxide , metal carbonate , metal hydrocarbons ......... therefore all alkalis are metals because they all neutralize acids but not all bases are alkalis because not all bases are dissolved in water .
