Answer: 2750

Given:

Number of participants in Chess = 2100

Number of participants in Badminton = 1750

Number of participants in both Badminton and Chess 1100

To find:

We have to find the total number of participants in the national club

Solution:

Let number of participants in chess=n(C ) = 2100

and number of participants in Badminton= n(B) = 1750

Number of participants in both Chess and Badminton= n(C∩B) = 1100

Now n(C∪B) = Total number of participants in national club

We have the relation

n( C∪B) = n(C ) + n(B) - n(C∩B)

             = 2100 + 1750 - 1100

n(C∪B) = 2750

∴The total members in the national club = 2750
