First of all I would like to clarify one thing. Everybody thinks that different religions have different Gods but that's not true. Every religion has different messengers of God. They are not God but being messengers of God we pay them equal respect and that should be. Their ways, rituals, practices are different but they ask us to focus only on one thing and that is Karma (action).
That's the answer to your question. God has given us human life only to go to him after death. Bodies are mortal but souls are immortal. We come on the Earth as a soul to unite with the Supreme Soul. Next question comes 'how to reach God ?'. The only one way of reaching God is to do good deeds and to try connecting with the unknown Supreme Soul. Whatever we do today bad or good will bear its action tomorrow. Good goes for good rewards and bad for bad. Therefore our sole purpose on Earth as humans is to serve not only humanity but also the animals who are souls bearing their bad consequences. We should always do good Karma if we want to unite with the Supreme soul and get out from this cycle of birth and death.
