Hi there!
Previously In India,
various kinds of harassment, exploitation and violence were common against Women.
but, nowadays also.. In urban areas, voilence against women increased has increased in recent years. Women aren't safe even in their home from Domestic Violence.
Feminist Movement suggests that unless women control power, their problems will not get adequate attention. For this, more women are needed to be elected as Representatives.
So womens( Even men who supported women ) around India started demanding to have seats in Lok Sabha n' State assemblies.
but still, the proportion of women in the Legislature has been very low. The % of elected women members in Lok Sabha has crossed 10% of its total strength in 2009 for the first time.
Their share in share in State Assemblies is less than 5%
[ Thank you! for asking the question. ]
Hope it helps!
