Following are the features that make India a federal country :-

1) The power sharing arrangement between the Union and the State given in the Constitution of India clearly distributes between the two.

2) Some of the powers of the State governments have been further transferred to the Panchayats. It means India exercises distribution of power at different levels.

3) Both the Union and states have their separate subjects under Union and State Lists. It shows federal nature of the country.

4) Both Union and states have their own financial institutions, sources and distribution of revenue. In this way, it is federal.

5) The provision of High Courts for the states and the Supreme Court for the nation as a whole is a federal feature.
