Although both acid and base are obtained from the salt of ethanoic acid, yet the overall aqueous
solution of sodium ethanoate is alkaline. Give reason.

Explanation:

because sodium ethanoate is a salt of a weak acid i.e. acetic acid & a strong base i.e. NaOH. thus basicity is not fully neutralised.

hope that helps

Explanation:

Although both acid and base are obtainedfrom the salt of ethanoic acid,

CH₃COONa is alkaline because,

It is formed by the following reaction,

CH₃COOH + NaOH → CH₃COONa + H₂O

Here Acetic acid being a weak acid reacts with a much stronger base of Caustic soda so, the product wont be neutralized completely hence giving out the nature of the stronger reactant i.e., basic.
