Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia a little town in northern Alabama.
Helen was a bright and intelligent child so she could speak some words at the age of six months and even copy others. As she was the first child of the family, many discussions took place to name her. Finally, she was named after her maternal grandmother. She lived in a beautiful house covered with all sorts of vines and beautiful flowers. The garden was the paradise of Helen's childhood.
Helen, the narrator of the novel, appears to be a very determined and hardworking person. The readers can't help but wonder at the fact that she lost her eyesight and hearing capability when she was just nineteen months of age. How difficult life would have been for her, and yet later on she wrote an inspiration description of her childhood. She must have learnt all this only after great hardwork. It must have been frustrating for her ; she lost her temper a million times and was depressed. But she kept fighting.
