although indian citizens have the right to equality the government gives special benefits to some of the citizens. why is this allowed?​

This is because, certain communities like the ethnic minorities (ST and SC), were surpresed invariably before independence. And other communities who are already in a good state would over power them in a country with equal rights. In order to ensure equality they should also be given an opportunity to elevate to a good status

the best example to explain it can be this.

When a race is held on a circular track some players are allowed to run from fore forward in the order of inner track to outer track .the player on the outer most track is at the most forward and the player at the inner track runs from the last .this is because if all the players run from a single starting point the outer track player had to run a longer distance due to increase in radius and therefore circumference of the circular track.

the same is with this system also .
