Though the British have gone, yet some of their rules still exist in India that's because they were brought to bring reforms in Indian society.
Some of these rules are:
1-Child Marriage Restraint Act- It was passed in 1927 to abolish the child marriages in the country. It restricted that no man under age 18 and girls below age 16 should be married.
2- British also passed a law in 1856 that allowed widows to remarry.
