It is a organic material containing starch which contains carbon as constituent.
When it burns in sufficient and insufficient air it produces carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide respectively which are fatal to our body system.
So for these poisonous gases we discourage it.
Also we know "plant tree get oxygen free" term which means that if we are going to use wood as fuel then we have to cut trees down.Which should be discouraged as trees are important.

Wood is discouraged as a fuel due to following reasons ->
1) Using wood as fuel would be expensive and it would mean more deforestation. The world is already facing deforestation danger and using wood as fuel would mean more danger.
2) Wood undergoes incomplete combustion. That means it will burn with yellow flame releasing toxic gases like carbon monoxide into the air and also it will generate soot as residue that is equally poisonous.
