Answer:

As we know that Aluminum is a very reactive metal and reacts with oxygen in air to form aluminum oxide, the oxide layer prevents the inner reactive aluminum from further corrosion.

so, aluminium protects itself against corrosion upon exposure to air by forming a layer of aluminium oxide. If this layer is made more uniform, it protects the aluminium underneath more effectively. Thus, this is done by a process called anodizing to make it corrosion resistant.

Answer :-

→  Aluminium reacts with air and forms a thin layer of aluminium oxide on it.

→ This layer of  oxide prevents further reactions and protects the metal from corrosion.

→ This is how  aluminium protects itself against corrosion

    4Al + 3O₂ ⇒   2Al₂O₃

→ If this oxide layer is more uniform, the metal below the layer would be well – protected.

→ This can be made with help of a process called anodizing.

→  In this process electric current  is passed through sulphuric acid using aluminium as anode.

→ Oxygen is evolved at the  anode which reacts with aluminium and forms a uniform protective layer of aluminium  oxide, which protects the metal form corrosion.
