x-10=5(y-10)

Answer:

Aman is 60 years old and his son is 20 years old.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

Aman's age = 3 times his son's age

Ten years ago = Aman was five times his son’s age.

To find :

Their present ages

Solution :

Let the present ages be -

  • Son as y
  • Aman as 3y

Ages 10 years ago -

  • Son = (y - 10)
  • Aman = (3y - 10)

\rule{300}{1.5}

According to the question,

Aman was 5 times his son's age 10 years ago.

\begin{lgathered}\rm{\longrightarrow} \: 5(y - 10) = 3y - 10 \\ \\ \rm{\longrightarrow} \: 5y - 50 = 3y - 10 \\ \\ \rm{\longrightarrow} \: 5y - 3y = - 10 + 50 \\ \\ \rm{\longrightarrow} \: 2y = 40 \\ \\ \rm{\longrightarrow} \: y = \dfrac{40}{2} \\ \\ \rm{\longrightarrow} \: y = 20\end{lgathered}

Son's present age = 20 years old

\rule{300}{1.5}

Aman's present age -

\begin{lgathered}\rm{\longrightarrow} \: 3(20) \\ \\ \rm{\longrightarrow} \: 60\end{lgathered}

Aman's present age = 60 years old

∴ Aman is 60 years old and his son is 20 years old.
