firstly add the fraction land used = 1/3 , 3/8 , 1/6

= 21/24

also total land = 24/24 or 1

so , land left for oranges = 1 - 21/24 = 24/24 - 21/24

= 3/24 or 1/8

Answer:

The answer is 1/8

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the fraction of his land left for oranges

Aman uses 1/3 of his land for bananas, 3/8 for pineapples and 1/6 for mangoes(Given)

Step = We know that now only for oranges the space is left in the land

And,

Aman has a whole land so fraction for whole one land = 1

Let the fraction for his land left for oranges be 'x'

Now, equate the addition of all he uses his land for fruits with one whole land[1]

That is,

1/3 + 3/8 + 1/6 + x = one whole land(1)

Take L.C.M of the denominators 3, 8 and 6(Except denominator of x so that afterwards we can find the value of x easily)

The L.C.M o the denominators 3, 8 and 6 is 24

1/3 X 8/8, 3/8 X 3/3 and 1/6 X 4/4[To make the denominators equal i.e. 24]

8/24, 9/24 and 4/24

Continue

1/3 + 3/8 + 1/6 + x = one whole land(1)

8/24 + 9/24 + 4/24 + x = 1

8 + 9 + 4/24 + x = 1

21/24 + x = 1

Follow the rules of linear equations

x = 1 - 21/24

Take L.C.M of the denominators 1 and 24

That is 24

1/1 X 24/24 and 21/24 X 1/1[To make the denominator equal i.e. 24]

24/24 and 21/24

CONTINUE

x = 1 - 21/24

  = 24/4 - 21/24

  = 24 - 21/24

  = 3/24

x = 1/8[The fraction of his land left for oranges]
