friction between two surfaces is caused by the roughness of surface the surface of an object may appear smooth to the NAD I but if you look at it through a microscope you will find a large number of irregularities onto to its surface in the form of group and bridges when one surface moves over the other these group and bridges get interlock which produce friction between the surface and slow down the motion
