This is the formula I chose to use. a is Ameen's age, x will be the number of years, and f is the father's age.

[(a)+x] / [(f)+x]=1/3

Now because we know that in six years the ages will equal one third, we put the one third at the end.

Now you pick a number for Ameen's age. I chose four and because Ameen is currently 1/5 his father's age, that is going to make his dad 20 years old.

[4+6] / [20+6] =1/3

10/26 does not = 1/3

So let's chose a different number using the formula.

[6+6] / [30+6] = 1/3

12/36=1/3

1/3=1/3

According to this formula, Ameen is six years old and his father is thirty.
