Hi there,

I think some of the data provided is incorrect in the questions given above. Hoping the correct question to be as follows:

Amit bought total of 44 laptops and mobiles together. Laptop costs two times of mobiles. He marked up the laptop by 50 % and phones by Rs. 3000 and sold these. He sold 80 % of mobiles and 6 laptops at Rs. 636000. The remaining mobiles and remaining 3 laptops are unsold due to some faults. Find his overall profit/loss on total quantity?

Answer:

Total no. of laptops + mobiles bought by Amit = 44

No. of laptops = 6 + 3 = 9

Let the no. of mobiles be “x”

Therefore, we can write

9 + x = 44

Or, x = 44 – 9 = 35

Also, cost of laptops is twice the cost of mobiles i.e.,

If the cost price of mobiles is Rs. “P” then C.P. of laptops would be Rs. “2P”.

Total selling price given = Rs. 636000

The S.P. of mobiles = (P+3000) * 80% of 35 = (P+3000) * 35 * 80/100

The S.P. of laptops = (2P + 50% of 2P) * 6 = 2P * 150/100 * 6

Therefore, according to the question

Total S.P. = S.P of mobile + S.P of laptops

⇒ 636000 = [(P+3000) * 35 * 80/100] + [2P * 150/100 * 6]

⇒ 636000 = 28P + 84000 + 18P

⇒ 46P = 552000

P = Rs. 12000

And, 2 P = 12000 * 2 = Rs. 24000

Now,

The total C.P. = 9 * 2P + 35 * P = (9*24000) + (35*12000) = Rs. 636000

Thus, we can clearly deduce that there will be overall no profit or no loss on the total quantity for Amit as, the total C.P. = Total S.P.
