The volume of nitrous oxide formed when 40 gram of ammonium nitrate is heated is 12.8 L

•Mass of water in grams when 54 grams of ammonium nitrate is heated is 28 g

•This follows from unitary mole concept.

•One mole of NH4NO3 gives one mole of N20 and two moles of H20

•Molecular mass of NH4NO3 is 70 g

•So 40 g NH4NO3 means 40/70 moles.

•Each mole will give 22.4 L of N2O

•But 4/7 mole will give

4/7 * 22.4

= 12.8 L of N2O.

•54 g NH4NO3 means 54/70 moles of NH4NO3.

•So mass of water produced

54/70 * 36

= 27.77

≈ 28 grams
