Ebola virus which got its name from the Ebola river is one of the deadliest viral diseases.
It was discovered in 1976 when two consecutive outbreaks of fatal hemorrhagic fever took place in different parts of Central Africa.
The first of its kind occurred in the Democratic Republic of Congo in a village near the Ebola River. The second outbreak occurred in South Sudan.
The countries of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone were frequently under the threat of Ebola virus. The first cases were recorded in Guinea in December 2013 which later spread to neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone.
