The ninth Chalukya King was found to be the holder of the title, Jagadhekamalla. He had ruled the Western Chalukya dynasty from 1138 to 1151. He was the successor of the Someshvara III who ruled the empire from 1126 to 1138.

The period of Jagadhegamalla II was found to be the period of downfall of the Chalukya Empire. Vengi, a most prominent region of the Chalukya Dynasty had gone from their hand during the rule of Jagadhegamalla II.

Despite the loss of Vengi, Jegadhegamalla II controlled the Hoysalas and Seuna, the other two important regions of the Dynasty in a well manner. Apart from the conquest and battles, Jagadhekamalla II was himself a merited scholar who encouraged the art and science in his rule.
