Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a group of rare neurological diseases that mainly involve the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movement. ALS is progressive and usually strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70. Notable individuals who have been diagnosed with ALS include baseball great Lou Gehrig, theoritical Physicist, cosmologist and author Stephen Hawking, musician Charles Mungus, former Vice President of Unites States Henry A. Wallace etc. To encourage donations to research many celebraties are taking the ice bucket challenge. Analyse which pathway of central nervous system is affected in ALS.

please it's a very interesting question for me

The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. The impulses that control the muscle function originate with the upper motor neurons in the brain and continue along efferent (descending) CNS pathways through the brainstem into the spinal cord. The disease does not affect the sensory or autonomic system because ALS affects only the motor systems.
