An ac circuit consist of a series combination of circuit element x and y the current is ahead of the voltage in lhase by π/4 .If element x is a pure resistor of 100ohm .Name the circuit element y

Hello friends as current is ahead then the circuit is capacitive. Hence element Y has to be a capacitor

Impedance Z = √R^2 + Xc^2

R = 100 Ω

Xc / R = tan pi/4

==> Xc = R = 100 Ω

Z = 100 √2 Ω

Therefore I rms = Erms / Z = (141 / 100√2) A = 0.9987 A = 1 A nearly
