Explanation:

The increase in length of the shoot and the root is referred to as primary growth, and is the result of cell division in the shoot apical meristem. Secondary growth is characterized by an increase in thickness or girth of the plant, and is caused by cell division in the lateral meristem.

Answer:

take two jars and fill them with water. Name them as jar 1 and 2 respectively. Put bulbs of onion in both the jars . Now observe the roots every day. On the fifth day cut the roots of the onion bulb in jar 2 to about 2 cm long.

Observe the roots for 4 - 5 days more.

Explanation:

You will find that roots will not grow again in jar 2 but it will keep on growing in jar 1 because we have cut the tips of roots in jar 2 .

Apical meristematic tissues are present on the tips of roots and shoots and if we cut them it will not cause growth.
