Given : an agent gets commission on cash sales and commission on credit sales. he gets only 300 rupees as commission in total sales of 4000

To find :   the amount of his cash sales and credit sales

Solution:

Let say Cash  Sale  =   C

Credit Sale = 4000 - C  Rs

Commisson on Cash Sale = X %

= (X/100)C  = CX/100  Rs

Commisson on Credit Sale = Y %

= (Y/100)(4000-C)   = 40Y  - CY/100  Rs

CX/100  + 40Y -  CY/100  =  300

Putting Values of X & Y  we can get C

Cash Sale = C RS

Credit Sale = 4000 - C   Rs

Let say X = 8    & Y  = 3

=> 8C/100 + 40*3  - 3C/100 = 300

=> 5C/100 = 180

=> C = 3600

Cash Sale = 3600 RS

Credit Sale = 4000 - 3600  = Rs 400
