Answer:

1) An agricultural field is in the form of a rectangle with length 20 m and width 14 mA

6 m long. 3 m wide and 5.5 m deep is dug in a corner of the field and the earth tak

out of it is spread uniformly over the remaining area of the field. What is the extent

which the level of the field is raised?

Answer

Length of field = L = 20 m           Length of hole = l = 6 m

Width of field = B = 14 m              Width of hole = b = 3 m

Rise in height = H                         Depth of hole = h =5.5 m

Area left after the hole is dug = Area of field - Area of hole

Area left after the hole is dug = L*B - l*b

Area left after the hole is dug = 20 x 14 - 6 x 3

Area left after the hole is dug = 280 - 18

Area left after the hole is dug = 262 m²

so

Area left after the hole is dug x Rise in height = Volume of Earth dug

262 x H = 6 x 3 x 5.5

H = 0.37 m

2) Three cubes of side 5 cm are joined from end to end. What is the surface area of the  resulting cuboid?

Answer

Length of resulting cuboid(l) = 3*s = 15 cm

Breadth of resulting cuboid(b) = s = 5 cm

Height of resulting cuboid(h) = s = 5 cm

Surface area = 2(lb + bh + hl)

Surface area = 2(75 + 25 + 75)

Surface area = 2(175)

Surface area = 350 cm²
