Given :    An apple of mass 0.1 kg is dropped from a height 1m.

To Find  :   the value of the kinetic energy when it hits the ground.

Solution:

TE = KE + PE

TE = Total energy

KE = Kinetic Energy   = (1/2)mv²

PE= Potential Energy   = mgh

An apple of mass 0.1 kg is dropped from a height 1 m.

m = 0.1 kg

h = 1  m

g = 10 m/s²

v = 0

At height 1 m

TE  = 0.1 (10) (1)  + (1/2)(0.1) (0)²

=> TE  =  1   + 0  = 1  joule

At ground when hits :

m = 0.1 kg

h = 0  m

g = 10 m/s²

TE  = 0.1 (10) (0)  + KE

=> TE  =  0 + KE

=> KE = TE

=> KE =  1  joule
