Carbon+oxygen=carbon dioxide

Mix co2 in water-

Co_{2} +H_{2} o=H_{2} Co_{3}

Carbon dioxide + water = carbonic acid

When we add a blue litmus paper to this solution it turns red. (Red= acidic , Blue= Basic)

Thus we can say that non-metallic oxide is acidic in nature
