Find the price after the discount:

5% Discount = 0.05 x 275 = Rs 13.75

Price after discount = 275 - 13.75 = Rs 261.25

Find the cost price:

Profit = 4.5%

Selling Price = 100 + 4.5 = 104.5%

104.5% = Rs 261.25

1% = Rs 261.25 ÷ 104.5 = Rs 2.50

100% = 2.5 x 100 = Rs 250

Answer: The shopkeeper paid Rs 250 for the article.

Marked price of the article is Rs. 275, discount = 5 %( 257x 0.05 = 13.75), Cost after the discount = 275- 13.75= 261.25.

Acquire cost price: He got net profit of Rs. 4.5%, Selling price = 4.5+ 100 =104.5 %, then 104.5% = 261.25, for 1% = 261.25/104.5= 2.50.

Multiply with 100 to get 100% (2.5x 100= 250).

So, shopkeeper pays Rs. 250 for the article.
