Woman is one of the most pious and humble creatures created by the creator. In India woman is considered as the symbol of love, compassion and devotion. Even then in older days she was not treated with dignity. She was not allowed to do anything of her own choice and remain confined within the four walls of the house. She lived passive life except cooking and rearing children. She did not play active role in society.
Now the time has changed and more and more woman are coming out the four walls. They are striving very hard to be equal to men.

Recently educational changes have provided equal opportunities to explode their unused talents and capabilities for being self sufficient in life as well as to defuse their dependence on men. They share in every sphere of society. Now they play a vital role in social, critical and economic development. Economic crisis has compelled woman to work hard and compare for improving economic status of their family. Now a days the expenses are very high and it is not possible to maintain the household affairs with the earning of only male members, more so in a nuclear family.

In order to meet the expenses it has become necessary for woman to come out of their homes and take the employment. An employed woman has her own identity.

She is no more dependent on anyone. Man and woman work together for the welfare of the family.

No country can progress until and unless the women in that country are free and independent. They present their ideas of improving and developing a country. Working woman is not at all a curse but a boon to the family and nation.

Working woman improves the economic conditions of the house. It helps her to give to her children a better standard of living, better education and better health. Working women are now a day’s becoming the need of the country and family. Women should break off their barrier and come out of house to join the greater world of freedom, self respect, self reliance and independence.

A dynamic corporate employee by day, a mother and a home-maker by day end. Seems like a task that requires some kind of supernatural abilities. Yet, a working mother manages this life on a daily basis. The constant struggle to strike the delicate balance between work and family can be really exhausting. “Being a working mother can be very challenging. Very much aware of this, I returned to work only when I was absolutely certain that I was ready to juggle two lives. I have made the conscious choice to work on my own terms, flexibility being very critical,” stated Rachna Mantri, a healthcare communications specialist.

Unfortunately there is still a stigma attached to being a working mother. But, many beg to differ. “Working mothers don’t make for good mums is in my opinion a popular misconception. There are many reasons why working women make good mothers. One of the important ingredients of being a good mother is to be happy with one’s own surrounding and circumstances. When the working mother is intellectually stimulated and satisfies her passion to do meaningful work, her happiness transfers to the family.

An educated woman with ambition and drive is well informed and abreast with the happenings of the corporate world. She is able to give intellectual companionship to her husband, help in making decisions about finances and education for the children, self-reliant, independent, and even contributes to the family’s income,” says Dr Snehal Shah, program chair of human resources leadership program, School of Inspired Leadership.

According to a recently conducted survey by TimesJobs.com, over 60% of the surveyed organisations believe that working mothers are an important asset to them. “There is immense potential in the women workforce. The figures are very heartening, from an approximate 19% in 2003 to 35% now. This percentage is even higher for Infosys BPO which stands at close to 40%. Working mothers have to balance multiple responsibilities, they bring focus to the work that they do. They are good at multitasking and finish their work on time to ensure that they are able to pay attention both at home and office,” stated Dr. Archana Arcot, head-organisation development (IBPO) and HR business leader (Mccamish), Infosys BPO.

Women joining back after post-maternity leave face immense trouble adjusting to the workplace environment. The biggest challenge being: the nagging concern about child care during working hours. Organisations these days, try their best to ease this transition. Sonia Kutty, general manager, human resources, QuEST Global, says, “At QuEST, we believe in providing the best possible assistance to female employees who join back after their maternity leave including the requisite psychological support. A woman typically finds herself in a different world when she has the added pressure of new responsibilities on her shoulders, making her feel nervous and exhausted. To manage such emotional challenges, we have retained a trained counselor who visits and is accessible when required. This initiative has helped many working mothers with their coping skills.”

In an effort to eliminate their biggest worry of child safety, QuEST Global has tied up with various schools, day care centres across Bangalore & Belgaum where they are located. They also have associations with various reputed day care centres having multiple branches.

“We also have tie ups with all major hospitals so that there is special attention, care and post-delivery care for our women employees. Another nightmare which most mothers go through is finding a good pediatrician. QuEST has tied-up with some of the best pediatric hospitals of the city that specialise in maternity care and pediatrics. This is apart from the tie-ups we have with reputed hospitals such as Fortis, Apollo etc. And to cater to those who prefer the conventional route for post maternity care, we have tied-up with a reputed 100 year old Ayurvedic specialty hospital, AVN Arogya where members can avail special discounts and benefits. While QuEST employees get these benefits, it is also extended to the immediate family members, thereby easing a lot of burden that working Indian mothers usually take,” added Kutty.
