Displacement of athlete is 100 metres.

But how ?

  • First of all, displacement is defined as the shortest length between the starting and a stopping point.

  • And, distance is defined as the total path length travelled by an object.

Now, when the athlete moves in a straight line without changing any direction, his/her displacement is equal to the distance which is equal to the path length.

So, in a straight line, the length between the starting and stopping point for the athlete during the race is 100 metres.

So, displacement is also 100 metres.
