Answer:

Distance covered = 2.2Km, Displacement = 200 m

Explanation:

Diameter of the track = 200 m

Therefore radius of the track = 100m\therefore $ Circumference of the track = $2\pi\times100$ m. This distance is covered in 40 seconds.$\\\\\therefore$ the speed of the athlete = $\frac{2\pi\times100}{40}\\\\\therefore$ in 2 minutes 20 seconds = (2*60+20 = 140) he will go$\\\\\frac{2\times22\times100\times140}{40\times7}=22\times100=2200 m=2.2Km

In 40 sec he/she completes 1 round

In 140 sec completes \frac{140}{40}=\frac{7}{2}=3.5$ rounds$\\\\\therefore $ after 140 sec he/she completes 3.5 rounds hence he/she will be exactly opposite of the point from where he/she started his/her journey.$

Therefore Displacement = Diameter = 200 m
