The charge present in an ion is the extra electron pocessed by the atom or lack of electron present in an atom.EXAMPLE:in O⁻²,-2 is the extra two electron present.Na⁺¹,+1 is the lack of one electron.
1.If an atoms contains extra electron it is called as ANION.EX- chloride ion-Cl⁻,Bromide ion-Br⁻,Iodine ion - I⁻.
2.If an atom contains lack of electron it is called as CATION.EX-Sodium ion-Na⁺,Potassium ion-K⁺.
