Time = t = 3 sec
speed = v = 342m/s
distance =?
here sound must be travel double distance so,

v =2d/t
v×t/2 = d
342×3/2= d
171×3 = d
513 m = d

distance = d =513 meters

1). An echo returned in 3 seconds. what is the distance of the reflecting surface from the source, given that the speed of sound is 342 m/s ?

ANSWER
::::::::::::::::::

According to the question
Speed of sound
V=342m/s

Time taken for hearing the echo
T=3s

So, the distance travelled by the sound wave =Vt

So, 342X3
= 1026m

So, in 3 seconds, the sound has to travel twice the distance between the reflectiong surface and the source

The distance of the reflecting surface from the source

d =1026/2

d= 513m
