(a) Cost to wash clothes for a week,if the washing machine is used on an average for 2.5 hours everyday is Rs. 264.6875

(b) Hours that a 500 watt ironing press would be used continuously to consume electricity worth ₹38.50 is 5.6 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Washing machine consumes 1100 watts per hour

Charges = 13.75 Rs. per hour

(a) If the washing machine is used for 2.5 hours everyday

Then in 1 week (= 7 days) total hours, the machine was in operation = 2.5 × 7 =  17.5 hours

Total electricity consumed = 1100 × 17.5 = 19250 watt = 19.25 kW

Total cost to wash the clothes = 19.25  × 13.75 Rs. = 264.6875 Rs.

(b) Electricity consumed worth = 38.50 Rs.

Electricity consumed in kW-hour = 38.5/13.75 = 2.8 kW-hour = 2800 Watts-hour

No. of hours, the ironing press was used = 2800/500 =  5.6 hours

Hope this answer is helpful.

  • What does it cost to wash clothes for a week,if the washing machine is used on an average for 2.5 hours everyday?

  • How many hours would a 500 watt ironing press be used continuously to consume electricity worth ₹38.50?

Solution:

(i)

We know the cost per hour = 13.75

No.of watts per hour = 1.1 kilo watts

→ So, cost per day = 2.5×1.1×13.75

→ 37.8125

Now, cost per week =

→ 37.8125 × 7

Rs.264.6875

(ii)
