Wire left after stolen = 0.9L
Used 85%, left 15% = 0.9Lx15%=47.25

L = 350m

The length of the purchased wire is 350m.

Given:

The stolen part of the wire is 10%.

The remaining part used is 85%.

The length of the wire is 47m 25cm.

To Find:

Length of purchased wire.

Solution:

Here, it is given that 10\% part of the wire was stolen.

now, the wire that is left after stolen =100\%-10\%

                                                             =90\%.

so, the 90\% is =\frac{90}{100} =0.9.

now, we have given that 85\% part of the wire is used so, the part of the wire that is left is 15\%.

here, the wire that is left after being stolen is 0.9 .

Let's suppose that the purchased wire's length is L.

so now we get,

0.9\times L\times 15\%=47.25

now, after calculating the values given in above.

we get, L=\frac{47.25}{0.9}\times \frac{15}{100} \\L=\frac{47.25\times 100}{0.9\times 15}\\L=\frac{4725}{13.5} \\L=350m.

Hence, the length of the purchased wire is 350m.
