A. Element X is positioned in period 3, group 17

And element Y is in period 4, group 2.

B. Electronic configuration of X is (2, 8, 7) and so we can tell that it’s valency is - 1.

Valency of element Y (2, 8, 8, 2) is +2.

So the formula of the compound is : YX2
