EXPLANATION.

An elevator descends into a mine shaft at the

rate = 12m/min.

if the descends starts from 20 m above the

ground level.

How long will it take to reach -460m.

According to the question,

Total distance elevator has to travel

=> initial position - Final position

=> 20 - ( - 460 )

=> 480 m

Now,

elevator descends at rate of = 12 m/min

elevator travel = 12 m/min = 1 min

elevator travel 1 m = 1/12 min

elevator travel = 460 = 1/12 X 480

=> 40

it will take = 40 minutes

Step-by-step explanation:

Speed of elevator into a mine shaft is 12 m/min.

Decent begins from 20 meter above the ground level and ending in -460 meters below the ground level

Total Distance equal to initial position-final position

-460+20= -480 meters

Total time taken=Distance÷Speed

So, total time taken is -480÷12=40 minutes
