An engine can pump 30,000 litres of water to a vertical height of 45 metres
in 10 minutes. Calculate the work done by the machine and the power.
(Density of water = 103kg/m3, 1000 litre = 1 m3, g= 9.8 m s-2).

We know,

Density = Mass/Volume

1000 = M/30m³

M = D × V = 30000 Kg

Now, P.E = mgh

              = 30000 × 9.5 × 45

              = 13230000 J or 13230 kJ

We know,

Power(P) = work done/ time

Power(P) = 13230000/600  [10 × 60]

               = 22050 Watts
