This proverb has a very deep intense meaning. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink' might be thought to encapsulate the English-speaking people's mindset better than any other saying. Parents can pay fees to make their child study and teachers can coach the student in appropriate ways to make the student get good grades. But it ultimately depends on the student to study and excel in life. Similarly the boss of a company can only give work to his employees but it depends on the employees to make use of the opportunity and work properly. Someone can stuff food inside our mouth but we should only chew and swallow it. As the proverb says "opportunity knocks the door only once" it is important that we seize the opportunity that God gives us and work accordingly.
